Kusttram – Open Doors on the Belgian coast
Belgium may be a small country, but it has the longest and fastest tram line in the world.
The Coastal Tramway, or Kusttram in Flemish, covers the Belgian coast from La Panne to Knokke in 2 hours 21 minutes and 67 stops. The construction of the line began in 1885 with the Ostend-Middelkerke section and was subsequently completed in stages until 1998, when it reached its current length. This means of transport makes it easy to get around without a car, and by the mid-2000s, the line was carrying 12 million passengers a year.
